How to Create a WhatsApp Chatbot
By Wapikon Team · Published 10 September 2026 · Updated 10 September 2026 · 8 min read
To create a WhatsApp chatbot you need a Cloud API number, a list of intents you will actually honour, a flow (messages, buttons, conditions), and a handoff to a human inbox. In Wapikon you connect the WABA, open Flow Builder, add nodes, and publish to that number. AI is optional and still needs takeover. You do not create an official chatbot by installing an auto-reply APK on a personal phone.

Write the intents before the nodes
List the ten questions you already answer by hand. If you cannot name them, you are not ready to bot. Each intent needs a truthful answer or a handoff. Invented FAQs (“we always have stock”) will be screenshotted.
Build the flow
Start with a greeting and two or three buttons. Branch. Collect one identifier (order ID, listing reference, campus). End every dead-end with “talk to a person.” In Wapikon that last node assigns the chat in the shared inbox.
Add AI only where wording varies
The AI support agent helps when the FAQ is long. Give it sources you maintain. Turn it off for regulated advice. Human takeover is not optional on healthcare, finance, or visa topics in Wapikon’s industry guidance.
Test on the real number
Send the keywords from a second phone. Check language, button limits, and what happens after hours. Publish only when handoff creates a visible assignment. Template campaigns remain a separate tool.
FAQs
Not for Wapikon Flow Builder. Developers who want raw APIs may use a CPaaS instead — see the Twilio comparison.
Wapikon’s omnichannel inbox can hold Instagram, Messenger, TikTok, and webchat beside WhatsApp. Build and test each channel’s entry points; do not assume one flow is automatically identical everywhere.
Run this on official WhatsApp Cloud API
